Reactive chemical reactions play a major role in most living systems, and it is widely accepted that without this type of study, modern life on earth would have been impossible.There are two types of reactive reactions. One is a simple, low energy one where a single reaction takes place and produces either no products or very little. These reactions are usually found in the laboratory, where multiple reactions are done quickly and without error. This is not a method of working in nature. It can be a very good thing, since it helps us understand how reactions take place and what they do, which makes the research easier. However, reactive chemistry is not necessary to understand the structure of a material. There are good alternative methods for understanding structure.In reality, these other methods are very similar to reactive chemistry and are often confused with it. However, the conclusions drawn from such models are different from the results of the compound reactions that are deduced from the changes in the molecular properties of the materials under study. Understanding how to start singing professionally  can take some time to figure out.  But in reality, if you have the skills, information, and knowledge, you can make your way into the music industry more easily than you think! You might not start at the top, but like any profession, you can work your way up. One of the key elements to landing any job is networking. You’ll often hear things like “it’s all about who you know”â€" and in many cases it is. Networking is about subtly selling yourself without becoming overwhelming. It’s about paving the way to future opportunities and potential jobs and auditions. It is essential, because most people like to work with someone they know and trust. In today’s digital age, there are endless singers hoping to make it by promoting themselves with videos, blogs, and social media.  While those things are tools that can be helpful, there is nothing more important than face time. Face time makes us more memorable, and it can give you a chance to create an unforgettable conversation that allows people to get a glimpse of who you are, and more importantly, remember who you are. Think of networking as a job in itself. You want to present your best attributesâ€"in other words, behave professionally.  Nothing says more about you than giving your word, and sticking to it, even in the music industry.  Remember, the life of a professional singer might seem glamorous, but it is hard work as well. Tip 1: Volunteer or Intern Nothing says you want something more than offering to work for free. Music festivals  are a great way to start â€" they can also be the catalyst that lands you a job in the music industry. Festival jobs often involve things like taking tickets, directing people, or staffing an information booth. Volunteer regularly and perhaps you’ll get more advanced assignments and meet more important people, especially if you earn some good referrals. Contact various festivals in your area and ask what opportunities they might have, and how to apply. Other volunteer and intern opportunities exist with community theaters. This an excellent option if you’re interested in a career in Music Theater. It’s also perfect for finding out how it all works.  The more familiar you are with the behind-the-scenes process, the better you’ll interview/audition in the future. It also gives you insight into what it takes to make it big! Interning can come in various forms. It might be a specific period of time with a major label, where only a very limited number of people are chosen. Other internships can be created try calling or talking with industry professionals or local labels and asking about the possibility of an internship. The music industry is a place where you’ll hear the word ‘no’ a lot, but don’t take it personally. Pick yourself up, and move on. Networking is about persistence (but again, subtle and not demanding). Also, keep your eye on resources that let you know where the opportunities are. This can include music industry websites, magazines, or even Craigslist. Tip 2: Get an Entry-Level Job Work on your resume and/or audition, and get out there searching. Entry-level music industry jobs are things like concert runners, singing with a local choir, small parts in local theaters, managing a small band, or working as a karaoke host â€" find anything that has you working with music. If your head is spinning trying to think about who is the best candidate, simply start by asking a trusted teacher or stopping by your guidance counselors office to talk about college. The possibilities here are endless, but the mantra is singular: find a mentorsomeone you trust. 2. There are scholarships and grants out there, specifically for you What if I told you that there is money out there that exists specifically to help pay for your college education? Believe it? Its true. Now, more than ever before, people (and companies) are taking note of the obstacles first-generation students face, and many organizations are trying to find ways to help. One of these ways is by offering scholarships specifically for first-generation college students like you! Open your favorite browser (if youre not in it already) and start looking for opportunities. These are free resources that can help you think through your career path and make sure youre on the right track in terms of identifying a major, minor, courses, and everything else that will help you maximize your college experience. You should also consider joining a first-generation student organization at your school. An organization such as this will expose you to older students who have been in your shoes and are brimming with good advice. Additionally, an organization like this will, in time, give you the opportunity to mentor and support incoming first-generation students. Pay it forward, right? Lastly, look for opportunities to land an on-campus job, become part of other on-campus organizations, and/or take part in resident-life activities in your dorm. Especially if language is a potential barrier for you, these are amazing opportunities to 1) meet and engage with other people and 2) practice your soft skills. This not only forces you out of your comfort zone, but also encourages you to nurture existing interests and find some you didnt even know you had. 5. Professors and advisors are there to help (so talk to them!) Much like weve advocated that you talk to your high school teachers and guidance counselors, once youve enrolled in college, start building relationships with your professors right away. We recommend attending office hours and introducing yourself to at least one or two professors that you genuinely admire or respect. Get to know them and make sure they know you as well. It can definitely be intimidating to introduce yourself to a professor (which is why so many students coast through their courses without doing so), but youll find that, in almost all situations, theyre very happy to interact with you. Making sure that you stand out to them, as both a human being and a courteous, engaged student, will pay dividends in the future. Additionally, most new students are assigned an academic advisor when they start school. Make sure to utilize this person! Your advisor can help guide you through selecting a major, minor, specialization, and/or concentration, as well as provide you with valuable information on specific courses. They can also connect you to other types of academic support services available on campus such as tutoring and writing centers. Once youve decided on a major, your faculty advisor will be another resource. They can offer you real-world guidance geared specifically toward the field youve chosen to study, which is extremely valuable. All in all, its important to remember that you arent in this crazy college thing by yourself. There are so many people and resources available to help you succeed, both on the way to college and once youre there. Sometimes, the hardest part is just finding them and being courageous and disciplined enough to utilize them. Be confident in yourself, and youll be hurdling every obstacle in no time!
